Christine Johnson Obituary

Christine Johnson, affectionately called Mommy, Mom, Grandma, Sis, Tiny, Aunt Tiny, Aunt Chris, Ms. Johnson, or simply, Chris, was born in St. Mary, Jamaica W.I., to the late Lunetta Scott Wilson and the late Nehemiah Johnson. Interestingly, she was a twin, but unfortunately, her twin did not survive.  Also preceding her in death are her siblings, Trevor Wilson,  Ervin Brown, Alma Wilson, Adline Barbara Brown, Hulet Brown,  Kenneth Brown, Ivan Forrester, and Ervis Wilson.

Christine was a very smart individual who loved to learn. She loved to read, and school was a highlight for her. Her late aunt, Lezlie Johnson-Bridgett, took her under her wings and made sure she received a good education. She was at some point relocated to Content Garden where she took great care of her grandmother, Ethel Amanda Richards, until she passed away.

Christine was a Housekeeper for the Sandals-Plantation Inn Hotel in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, in the late 1950s to early 1960s. It was there she met a prominent businessman and his family. They loved her so much and, in 1966, she migrated to the United States, where she took care of their children. After a short while, she decided that it was time to start the next chapter of her life. She and her girlfriends found an apartment in the Bronx, New York. They shared it for many years until each of them found their footing and moved on. She became a U.S. Citizen in March 1978 and continued to live in the Bronx.

She furthered her education by attaining her GED, and her Nursing certification. She was an employee at the Jacobi Hospital, in the Neo-Natal Nursing Unit. There, she was in her element working with children of all ages, she specifically enjoyed working with Infants. She never stopped learning and passed those interests on to her children and grandchildren, some of whom are doing well and giving back to society in the field of business, medicine, and engineering. She was a great influence on all. After some 30 years, she retired from Jacobi hospital.

Chris was a firecracker; a no-nonsense kind of person, she told you as it was and that was that. She did not mince her words. She had a green thumb and a passion for growing plants. She took pride in caring for her plants, making her apartment look like a garden. In addition, she loved to sew and do crossword puzzles. She was also the best storyteller, as she loved reminiscing about the past and talking a lot about her grandmother, brothers, and sisters.

Christine leaves to mourn her children: Douglas Grier-Swanson, Paul Walker, and Ornell Ramsay-Christie. Grandchildren: Sophia Grier-Roach, Curtis Grier, Charlott Grier-Williams, Nathale Grier, Douglas Grier, Jr., Omar Grier, Lindsey Swanson, Chelsea Swanson, Joshua Walker, Omari Christie, Malikah Ready, and Kofi Christie. Great Grandchildren: Nicholas Roach, Keyshawn Roach, Javaughn Roach, Samantha Grier, Romane Whyte, Kymani Williams, Brittany Hoilett, Will McFarlane, Sage McFarlane, Omari Grier, Romario Grier, Amir Paul Walker, and Kymora Walker. Great-Great Grandchildren: Kyrah Lewis, Kalia Lewis, and Nylah Robinson. Sister: Joyce Brown-McLean. Brothers: Fitzroy Wilson and Noel Johnson. And a myriad of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and great friends.
