Dorothy Mae Robinson was born out of marriage to Alvesta (Alva) Brown and Sylone, Brown on June 11, 1933. Dorothy grew up on 116th Street in Harlem with 2 older brothers, Herbert and Edward Brown. She attended The Little Red School House for her primary education and attended Washington Irving High School. During her teen years, Dorothy modeled and was featured in 17 Magazine.

Dorothy sought early retirement to care for her ailing mother, who preceded her in death in 1976. Dorothy didn't stop caring for people throughout her life; besides her children: she cared for her ailing parents, brother, aunt, grandchildren, and anyone in need of care. Dorothy was creative and kept a beautiful home that she would decorate as well as an excellent Baker that would love to bake and decorate for others to bring them joy.
