Ruben Diaz was born on April 19 th 1949, to Marcial and Perfecta Diaz. Born and raised in the Bronx, Ruben was the third oldest of seven children. Affectionately known as “Papo”, he grew up to be a beloved legend of 169 th in Fulton.
Papo loved to be active, it kept him feeling young. Whether it was fishing, walking to Indian Lake, or taking his grandchildren to the park he enjoyed it all. He loved riding his bicycle especially to Orchard Beach in the warm weather. He enjoyed feeding the birds and loved listening to salsa music. There was never a dull moment when Papo was around because he was the life of the party!
Papo was the heart of the Diaz family. He was always willing to help out when able. Much like the black and white wild westerns that Papo loved to watch, there was no task that he could not complete. He was hardworking and the best handball player to ever come out of Fulton Avenue (If you know, you know). He loved all of his children, adored his grandchildren, and was even blessed enough to meet several of his great grandchildren.
Papo is predeceased by his father Marcial and mother Perfecta, his sisters Helen and Hilda and his oldest son Ruben (Macho) Diaz Jr. .
Our beloved Papo was called home on March 14 th , 2023 surrounded by much love and laughter as he would have wanted. Papo is survived by his children Bonny, Jeffrey, Dawn, Paul and Patricia, his siblings Felix, Francis, Martha, Marcial Jr, David, Ruben (Pipo) and Gary, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Although Papo has begun a new journey, he will forever remain in all of our hearts.
Until we meet again, we love you Papo!
